2025 WINTER CO-HORT → Facilitated by Hailey Mitsui • Starting January 2025

In my Spiritual Direction private practice, I sit with people in the throes of grief and disorientation. Many of us have moved away from the restrictive theologies that we were given in our childhood or young adulthood and are skeptical that there is a more supportive way of relating to spirituality.

We have deconstructed our way out of harmful religion… but we often feel unmoored, drifting at sea. We don’t want to get back on the boat we just jumped off of, but treading water, alone, in the cold is also not an option.

I created this cohort as a life-raft. Not the one and only answer… but a next step for people who desire to reconstruct a spiritual life not grounded in shame, control and anxiety but embodied curiosity, agency and liberation.

This 8-week transformative journey will be one of spiritual renewal and reconnection with self, spirit and our little cohort community. It will be guided by my experience supporting people (and myself) rebuilding supportive spiritual practices and it will also be guided by you. Your intuition and your unique identities and lived experience. I cannot wait to co-create this space together.

• Our cohort will meet weekly on Zoom for 90 minutes of co-learning and communal processing of the week’s content.
• Cohort Group Meetings will be held on Tuesdays at 6pm PDT. Dates: May 7, May 14, May 21, May 28, June 4, June 11, June 18 & June 25.
• These cohort gatherings will not be recorded. It is encouraged that each participant does their best to attend all 8 of the Tuesday evening gatherings in an effort to increase trust and continuity with the group. </aside>

Why Trust Me??

This is a very important question to ask! And I trust you to know if I’m the right person to curate a space/journey for you right now ◡̈

I grew up immersed in the evangelical culture of the 90s and 00s. A common refrain was “in but not of this world”. We had our own schools, music, awards shows, clothing brands and not-so-fantasy novels (s/o to the Left Behind series). But when my lived experience as a mixed-race, queer woman who cared about justice and equity, bumped heads with the mainstream Christian norms of boosting church attendance and pushing watered down prosperity gospel I became disillusioned. I remember sitting in my car, talking to god out loud, telling them that I needed answers or I was going to walk away from the whole thing. If there was anything salvageable in this religion, then I needed one stepping stone revealed. I didn’t need to know the whole path, but I needed to know that I wasn’t at the end of my journey with god.

The next week I was introduced to work of Christian Mystic Richard Rohr which set off a chain reaction that has lead to over a decade of deconstruction, reconstructing and deconstructing that and reconstructing again… and so on ◡̈ I’ve taken dozens of courses, read hundreds of books, listened to hours of podcasts and attended so many expensive retreats all in pursuit of someone telling me the secret to spirituality that is supportive and not anxious and shame-based.

As a Spiritual Director, I sit with people every day who are navigating the nuances of what spirituality looks like to them. This cohort is a summation of everything I have learned from my own journey and the journey of others. What sets this cohort apart from other deconstruction and reconstruction resources is that I feel so strongly that I, as the facilitator, do not have any answers. You do. This cohort is oriented around rebuilding trust in yourself and reconnecting to how spirit reveals truth to you. I will provide a framework but I hold no answers. We get to co-create those together.

In a desire to make this cohort financially accessible, I am offering two payment plan options. I will also do my best to honor scholarship requests, but the amount I’ll be able to provide will depend on the number of people who enroll.
